Paradisium

ABOUT

Paradisium is a grove of trees reborn out of the ashes of The Folly. The geometric trees are built mostly out of recycled and reclaimed lumber collected around the Bay Area.

A triangular-shaped grove will include 27 trees of three different sizes and four little pods. The trees will be decorated with intricate geometric patterns made out of old fence boards and will form a canopy at 12 feet above the ground. If budget allows, the canopy will connect the tallest trees with walkways to explore, and digital color mapping will show the change of seasons throughout the week.

INTERACTIVITY

Paradisium will provide a space for respite and reflection.

The trees will deliver shade and create shadow art on the playa floor while winding pathways will encourage a sense of exploration and surprise. The little pods on the ground level will provide shelter and a space to rest and contemplate. Some trees will allow participants to access the canopy and a mystical wishing tree will hold their thoughts, hopes and dreams.

The glade at the center will serve as a sanctuary where the community can gather and meditate.

PHILOSOPHY

The effects of climate change are becoming strikingly obvious in every corner of our planet. While we might feel that our individual actions don’t amount to much, as a collective we can make a difference. Reducing consumption, reusing and repurposing, moving towards renewables, and planting more trees is something that we all can do today.

Paradisium is a grove made out of trees, long fallen, that reminds us of the forest's beauty and our interconnectedness and interdependence with nature, while also fostering a sense of community and an investment in our shared future.
